Places to go Country Dancing in Mesa, Arizona

Watching country dancing when going out at night has always been a love of mine. The love to watch morphed into an addiction to actually participate when I learned how to do the Arizona 2-Step and the Country Swing dancing in Mesa, Arizona. I like to think of it as a healthy addiction! Not only do I get to meet new people and experience the thrill of dancing, but I also get to skip the gym the next morning because of the amazing workout I get, especially with the faster Country Swing. Going out with my girls on the weekend became an excuse for us to go country dancing, and sometimes became a guilty pleasure to get away from it all in the middle of the week. My top three favorite spots to go in Mesa are Cactus Moon, Toby Keith's, and Denim and Diamonds. If you were to ask me which one is my favorite, I would have to say all three - for various reasons.

Cactus moon is right across the walkway from Toby's, and is always busy. They have delicious appetizers, and many billiard tables, but I find myself drawn there because of the large dance floor. The crowd is always diverse -being so close to Tempe and Arizona State University, and here you have space to move! They even have a specific night dedicated to country dancing.

Toby's is also a great place to go, but for different reasons. Popular country bands frequent the stage, and it is always busy, but the dance floor is a little smaller and more crowded than Cactus Moon, making it important to be courteous of others around you (which a few regulars do not). On the other hand, they only play country music, and the atmosphere is always upbeat and exciting.

Denim and Diamonds has become my middle of the week getaway. They have an amazing Ladies Night Out on Wednesdays with awesome drink specials, and the largest dance floor out of the three. Wednesday is the best day to go because of how many people come to dance, and I find myself now looking forward to hump day because of it.

As my dance addiction grows, the need to know more about different types of country dances also grows, and so I signed up for a country group class at Dance FX Studios where they are teaching me more about the Arizona 2-Step, and the Country Swing. I plan on feeding my dance addiction with private lessons next so that I can learn West Coast Swing and the slower country dance, the Nite Club 2-Step!
